Sean Vernon Feliciano, 20 years of age and a junior at UCSB, took his life in March of 2009. His family and friends were devastated by his death and like many others were left with no answers. Sean was a great young man with an infectious smile; someone always willing to help others. With Sean's death, his family and friends formed a 501(c)(3) nonprofit foundation called the "Sean Vernon Feliciano Amazing Day Foundation, Inc." The name "Amazing Day" comes from Sean's cell phone message, "and have an amazing day." The goal of the foundation is to create awareness of the number two killer of college students: Suicide. Through awareness and further research, the foundation hopes to reduce the number of senseless deaths. To learn more about the Amazing Day Foundation and how you can get involved, click here. Jimmy V "Don't Ever Give Up" Run Series The Shamrock 5-Miler has been selected as one of the lead races in the national Jimmy V "Don't Ever Give Up" Run Series. The series aims to raise money and awareness for the V Foundation for Cancer Research. The V Foundation for Cancer Research was founded in 1993 by ESPN and the late Jim Valvano, legendary North Carolina State basketball coach and ESPN commentator. Since 1993, The Foundation has raised more than $100 million to fund cancer research grants nationwide and awards 100 percent of all direct cash donations and net proceeds of events directly to cancer research and related programs.
